FRISCO, Texas –
Brandon Mitchell won his second Southland Pitcher of the Week award this season after he earned the honor with a complete game in a win against McNeese.
Mitchell went the distance for the third time this season as he held the Cowboys to just four hits on Saturday. Mitchell struck out six batters as he picked up his seventh win of the season, which ranks in the top ten in the nation and second in the Southland.
To date, Mitchell has 64 strikeouts to just 17 walks over 64.2 innings. He is second in the Southland in innings pitched heading into this week.
The senior and Houston native has put together a strong season for the Privateers. He ranks 30
th in the nation in WHIP (walks-hits-innings pitched) at a 1.02. He also has three complete games which ranks behind only two pitchers in the country.
Since Southland play started, Mitchell's shortest outing has been six innings. Mitchell has allowed just 29 hits in 39 innings. Southland opponents are hitting just .207 off Mitchell over five appearances.
Mitchell also won Southland Pitcher of the Week honors after he threw a complete game in a win against Lamar.
With four scheduled starts remaining in the regular season, Mitchell is looking to become the first pitcher at New Orleans to reach double digit wins in a single season since Bryan Cryer in 2008.
