Privateers Step Out of Conference for Series at Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The New Orleans Privateers will play a non-conference series on the weekend when they head north to face the Little Rock Trojans. The series starts with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday at Gary Hogan Field.

New Orleans is coming off a 6-5 win over South Alabama. The Privateers hit three home runs in one inning between Anthony Herron Jr., Issac Williams and Tristan Moore to build a five-run lead. The Privateers held off a late rally as the Jaguars left the bases loaded in the ninth.

Canaan Clayton became the sixth different Privateer pitcher to notch a save this season after doing so against South Alabama. The team co-leaders in saves are Beau Blanchard, Trey Usey and Matthew Maldonado with two each.

The Privateers have 93 RBI with two outs heading into the weekend. Four Privateers are in double digits in that category: Mitchell Sanford (19), Williams (13), Tristan Moore (13) and Jorge Tejeda (10).

New Orleans is 5-0 in one-run games this season after their latest such victory on Tuesday against South Alabama. The Privateers have also gone 14-2 in games this year when they've hit two or more homers.

New Orleans will play an old Sun Belt foe when they take the field against Little Rock. The Privateers were 36-13 against the Trojans while both teams were in the Sun Belt. All meetings happened between 1995-2010.

Little Rock (24-14, 10-5 OVC) heads into the weekend winners of five straight games. The Trojans have been tough at home, sporting a 19-5 record coming into this weekend.

Tyler Williams leads the team in batting average (.366), runs (30) and triples (6). The Trojans are hitting .294 as a team and six starters are hitting .300 or better. On the mound, Jackson Wells sports a 1.07 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched.
