NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers return home for a four-game week starting on Tuesday night when they will face the Jackson State Tigers. First pitch for the contest at Maestri Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
New Orleans (25-19) is coming off a 3-1 week where they took a midweek game at South Alabama and won a series at Little Rock, who was third in the Ohio Valley Conference standings heading into the weekend. The Privateers collected 19 hits and 14 runs in the series finale.
Anthony Herron Jr. had a phenomenal week which included 11 hits with five going for extra bases (two home runs, three doubles). Herron vaulted his batting average from .277 to .322 with the four-game stretch. He went 4-for-4 in the series finale.
Tristan Moore added his 14
th home run of the season over the weekend against Little Rock. Moore is 58
th in the nation in home runs and leads the Southland in that category along with slugging percentage. Moore is hitting .347 entering the week.
The Privateers vaulted from 132 to 88 in the latest RPI rankings after last week. New Orleans has a non-conference RPI ranked inside the top 100 and owns a Quad 1 win against Southern Miss.
New Orleans has the best home record in the Southland entering the week at 15-4. Northwestern State is next on the list with a home record of 17-6.
This will be the third meeting against Jackson State this season. The Tigers won a 3-0 game at the Andre Dawson Classic in late February. New Orleans responded with a 21-4 win after seven innings in Jackson in early April. The Privateers hit seven home runs that night.
Jackson State (23-18, 8-13 SWAC) won the last two games to take their series against Bethune-Cookman over the weekend. Ty Hill continues to hit for a high average as he checks in with a .413 batting average in 40 games played. As a team, the Tigers are hitting .306.
