FRISCO, Texas –
Tristan Moore earned Hitter of the Year and five Privateers made the All-Southland Team that was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Moore became the second Privateer in as many years to earn Hitter of the Year honors. Moore finished 35
th in the nation in home runs during the regular season with 19. Moore hit .345 with 55 RBI in his debut season with the Privateers.
He also scored 60 runs which ranked second on the team in the regular season which also ranked second in the league. Moore's runs scored total was 79
th in the nation. He also finished second in the Southland and 57
th in the nation in slugging percentage.
Brandon Mitchell and
Tyler Bischke joined Moore on the Southland First Team.
Mitchell became the first Privateer pitcher since 2008 to record double digit wins when he posted a 10-3 record. He also recorded four complete games, tied for second most in the country. Mitchell threw 90.0 innings in 14 starts and finished fifth in the Southland in strikeouts with 78.
Bischke was second on the team in home runs as he cranked 11 on the season. He also drove in 51 runs and scored 56 for an offense that was 21
st in the country in runs scored. Bischke had two games of two home runs against Jackson State and UIW.
Anthony Herron Jr. and
Mitchell Sanford earned spots on the Southland Second Team.
Herron hit for the cycle in his last game of the regular season to cap off a strong year at first base. The Chicago native hit .317 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 35 RBI. He also won the last Southland Hitter of the Week award of the regular season.
Sanford dominated opponents especially in the Southland. His conference batting average was at .404 and his overall batting average finished at .325 for the regular season. Sanford had 10 doubles, eight homers and 58 RBI. His RBI total was second in the Southland.
