Privateers Begin Home Series Against HCU on Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers play a home weekend against the HCU Huskies starting on Friday, May 5. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.

SUNDAY: HCU-TBA vs. UNO-LHP Tyler LeBlanc

Saturday's game is Bark in the Park sponsored by Raising Cane's. Fans can bring their dogs and get a ticket for five dollars along with one dollar pup cups.
 
New Orleans enters the week in the final spot in the Southland Tournament. Meanwhile, the Huskies are on the outside looking in at 6-9. The Privateers have a one-game lead on HCU heading into the third-to-last weekend of the regular season.
 
New Orleans enters the weekend with an RPI of 87, which ranks highest in the Southland. McNeese is next with an RPI of 120. Their non-conference strength of schedule is second toughest only behind McNeese.
 
Jacob Mead became the seventh Privateer pitcher to earn a save. The team co-leaders in saves are Trey Usey, Beau Blanchard and Matthew Maldonado with two saves each.
 
Tyler Bischke is on an eight-game hitting streak entering the weekend. He is 14-for-32 at the plate which translates to a .437 batting average. In that span, he's raised his season average from .290 to .318. Bischke has also scored a run in seven straight games.
 
Privateer catchers have thrown out 19 of 44 runners attempting to steal this season and they have a runner caught in three of the last four games. Jorge Tejeda has thrown out over 45 percent of runners attempting to steal against him this year.
 
HCU, headed by former Major Leaguer, Lance Berkman is 10-30 on the season but the Huskies' lineup has been very potent particularly in Southland play.
 
Reed Chumley leads the league in batting average and slugging percentage coming into the weekend. As a team, the Huskies have tied for third in the Southland in doubles since conference play has started with 30 total.
