Bischke, Mitchell and Moore Score All-Louisiana Honors, Useche Earns Honorable Mention

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team had three selections on the All-Louisiana Team and one honorable mention. Brandon Mitchell earned First Team recognition while Tyler Bischke and Tristan Moore were named Second Team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Thursday afternoon. Miguel Useche earned Honorable Mention honors as well for the Privateers.

Mitchell earned First Team honors after a phenomenal season. He finished 11-3 with a 3.65 ERA and threw four complete games. The senior from Houston finished tied for third in the country in complete games.

His 11 wins were the second most in a single season by a Privateer since 2000 and tied for the ninth most in a year in program history. He threw 101.0 innings across 16 starts and threw at least six innings in all nine of his starts against Southland opponents in the regular season.

Moore was named Second Team and brought power to the middle of the lineup during the 2023 season with 19 home runs and 55 RBI. His home run total led the Southland and was in the top 60 in the nation. He had four games of two home runs during the season.

His home run total was tied for third in a single season in program history only behind Mark Higgins (24, 1984) and Brian Traxler (20, 1987). Moore had 18 multi-hit games during the season and hit .318 over 58 games (55 starts).

Also earning Second Team status was Tyler Bischke, adding to his list of accolades after a phenomenal season both offensively and defensively. The Pittsburgh native hit .309 with 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 54 RBI.

He also had a .988 fielding percentage while starting every game and finished in the top ten in the Southland in runs scored, home runs, doubles, RBI and total bases. Tyler finished the season strong with hits in 10 of his last 11 games.

Useche earned honorable mention after batting .298 with six home runs and 36 RBI in 55 games (all starts). He also co-led the team in doubles with 16. That total ranked tied for ninth in the Southland. For his career, Useche has 32 doubles in 102 games.

He had 17 multi-hit games and drew 29 walks. He also scored 47 runs for a Privateer squad that led the conference and finished 35th in the nation in runs scored.

In Blake Dean's tenure, the Privateers have had 11 All-Louisiana selections and four more student-athletes who earned Honorable Mention. Mitchell is the fifth First Team selection under Coach Dean.
