BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will head to the state capital to participate in the ITA Southern Regional which starts with the singles qualifying draw on Wednesday morning.
To advance to the main draw, a player has to win three qualifying matches.
Marc Mail is already in the main draw of the tournament. Mail had a fantastic opening weekend of the fall season when he won his singles flight while only conceding five total games. He will face Billy Blaydes (Auburn) who was a Second Team All-SEC selection last season.
Matthew Armbruster has a tough draw out of the gate. He'll play the 1-seed in the qualifying draw, Asaf Friedler who transferred to Tulane from San Francisco. Frielder went 11-3 in singles while playing mostly at flight four last spring.
Julian Franzmann, who went 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles at the Battle Down the Bayou will play a first round match against a true freshman. He will take on Charlie Burdell of Tulane in the opening round of qualifying.
Jay Temming will play against Niklas Nordahl Jensen in the opening round with a potential match against a seeded player in the second round: Nazar Fedoryshyn of North Alabama who won 26 total matches in 2023-24.
Joseph Townes will face off against Arnav Panthage of Alabama A&M in the opening round. Townes and Temming went undefeated in doubles in the first weekend of the fall. A potential second round match against 5-seed Alin Fatu of Jacksonville State could await Townes.
In doubles, Temming will be paired with
Sep de Visser. Franzmann will be teamed up with
Matthew Armbruster. Both of those teams are on the top half of the bracket. Mail and Townes will form another tandem, which will occupy the bottom half of the bracket.
