Women's Basketball Signs Two in Early Signing Period for Class of 2025

NEW ORLEANSTrelanne Powell has signed her first two student-athletes for the 2025 class with the addition of Mikayla Johnson and Mariah Hart.

Johnson, a guard out of Columbus, Ga., has come into her senior season already with over 1,400 points scored in her high school career. Johnson has twice been named Region Player of the Year and has earned First Team All-Region and Georgia Basketball Coaches Association All-State honors.

In addition, Johnson has already earned distinction as a SaMarc MVP and has won the Marc Upshaw Player of the Year award. Carrying a 3.5 GPA, Johnson has also earned All-Academic honors at Hardaway HS.

"We are thrilled to have two new additions sign early with us," said Coach Powell. "Mikayla ia a 5'10" shooting guard that will add size and length to our backcourt. She is top five out of the state of Georgia in three-pointers made and is coming from a highly competitive Hardaway program as a four-year starter. She will be fully equipped to come in and contribute right away."

Hart burst on to the scene as a freshman at Princeton HS where she was a Second Team All-District selection, District Co-Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the McDonald's Invitational All-Tournament Team.

In her last two seasons, Hart has earned First Team All-District honors. As a sophomore she also won District Offensive Player of the Year. During the 2023-24 season, Hart reached the 1,000-point mark for her high school career and has accumulated over 1,300 points and 350 assists heading into her senior year. She also won a district title in the shot put during her sophomore year.

"Mariah is our very first incoming freshman point guard signee," said Coach Powell. "Point guards are a crucial component to a program's success and Mariah checks all the boxes. She is a crafty scoring point guard that has a high IQ. She possesses natural leadership qualities you want in a team facilitator."
