This week's "Walking with New Orleans" is an interview with Privateer Baseball player
Mitchell Sanford. Sanford is a returning Southland All-Conference right fielder, who wound up as the team leader in batting average by season's end.
Q: You had to go through a lot physically. How rewarding was that to be able to come back and have the season you had last year?
A: It's huge. It's always scary going through injuries. When you take 2 years off of baseball and coming back and having a good season it means a lot to me.
Q: This team was on the doorstep last year though it wasn't the finish anybody wanted, how important was it to carry over that momentum from the season you guys had last year?
A: Having that momentum is big because we've gotten close and we knocked on the door. We know what needs to be done throughout the season to get a good bid in the tournament.
Q: What attracted you specifically to playing in New Orleans and for Blake Dean and this coaching staff?
A: His coaching style, he's a hitting coach and we have a great relationship. He has a personality that we kind of mesh together.
Q: You have a cousin on the team in Zeph Hoffpauir on the team and you both had your signing days out of high school on the same day. What is it like that both of your careers took you to the same school here in New Orleans?
A: Zeph is my best friend and basically like a brother. I just enjoy coming to the field with him every day and road trips.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests. Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win. Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day. Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
