GAME NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will host a midweek game ahead of conference play as they take on the Jackson State Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Maestri Field.
New Orleans (9-10) was in a tough series against Memphis. The Privateers took the middle game 6-1 while the Tigers won the series opener and finale. Privateer pitchers held the Tigers to nine hits through the first two games of the series.
Mitchell Sanford has done a lot of his damage early in the count. On first pitches of an at-bat, Sanford has put a ball in play 17 times and has 10 hits (.588 batting average). Four of Sanford's five homers have been within the first two pitches of an at-bat.
Victor Castillo hit two triples in the last game of the series against Memphis. It was the first two-triple game by a Privateer since Orynn Veillon in 2017 and the 13th occurrence in program history.
Trey Usey threw 3.2 scoreless innings and
Ryan Delorbe threw 2.1 scoreless frames both in long relief. Usey pitched on Friday night and struck out five batters. Delorbe pitched on Saturday and struck out two. Neither pitcher conceded a walk in his outing.
Under
Blake Dean, the Privateers are 5-4-1. In the five wins, the Privateers have scored 81 total runs and have gone over 20 runs twice. In the four losses, the Privateers scored a total of 10 runs and were shut out in the Andre Dawson Classic last season.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Jackson State (13-4) took the first two games of their opening conference series against Alabama Stat over the weekend. The Tigers own a win over Memphis and went 2-1 in the Grind City Classic two weekends ago.
Omar Johnson has been the head coach for 18 seasons. He has 553 wins in his coaching career in Jackson.
Joseph Eichelberger is hitting .449 with 28 RBI. As a team, the Tigers are hitting .307 with 62 stolen bases this season.
