Privateers Head to Baton Rouge to Face LSU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team, coming off a weekend sweep, will head to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers on Tuesday evening at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

New Orleans swept Division II foe, Bluefield State over the weekend. The Privateers outscored the Big Blue 50-9 and in the process, raised their team batting average on the season from .279 to .298. New Orleans also had 25 extra base hits on the series.

Mitchell Sanford vaulted his way to at least a share of the lead in the following categories in the Southland: slugging percentage (.786), RBI (47), home runs (11), doubles (15) and total bases (110). Sanford was 9-for-14 in four games against Tulane and Bluefield State.

Brady Prewitt became the fifth Privateer to have a four-hit game when he accomplished that feat on Apr. 13 against Bluefield State. He joins Mitchell Sanford (twice), Miguel Useche, Victor Castillo and Collin Loupe in that department.

Caleb Seroski has been used in every role possible in his time with the Privateers. The senior has 13 career saves and 15 wins. His 65 appearances are tied for 11th in program history. The next game he pitches in will move him into the top 10 in career games pitched at New Orleans.

Victor Castillo was moved to the leadoff spot a week ago and it has reaped immediate benefits. He went 4-for-4 against Tulane and was 10-for-14 at the plate this week with five runs scored. He is the fifth Privateer to hit leadoff this season (Issac Williams, Maika Niu, Alexander Saunier, Dalton Hurst).

New Orleans has beaten LSU three times in nine meetings since Blake Dean took over as head coach in 2016. This will be the first meeting with the Tigers unranked since 2011. LSU leads the overall series 63-38.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
LSU was on the wrong end of a series sweep against Tennessee over the weekend, dropping the Tigers' conference record to 3-12. LSU has gone through a rugged early conference slate with series against Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt who were all ranked in the top ten at the time they played the Tigers.

Tommy White leads the Tigers in batting average at a .324 clip. White is one of two Tigers with double digit home runs (11) this season. Jared Jones leads the Tigers in home runs with 14 on the year.
