NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will begin the back half of their conference slate this weekend when they take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday at Maestri Field with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.

The Privateers absorbed a 10-3 loss at Jackson State on Tuesday night. The Tigers scored in each of the first five innings.
Mitchell Sanford had two extra base hits for the Privateers and
Dalton Hurst reached base in all three plate appearances.
New Orleans enters the weekend in a tie for third place in the conference standings. Lamar is at the top with a 9-3 mark. Nicholls is second at 10-5 and UIW joins the Privateers heading into the weekend with an 8-4 record.
Hurst comes into the weekend with a .333 batting average over his last seven games. Hurst has nine RBI and seven runs in that stretch.
Since
Blake Dean took the helm, the Privateers are 16-5 against A&M-Corpus Christi. This will be the third series at Maestri Field against the Islanders in that span. New Orleans has won two of three in the previous two home series vs the Islanders (2017, 2022).
Grant Edwards has only had one of his 10 starts go shorter than five innings. Edwards is the pitching staff leader in innings pitched with 51.2. That mark ranks ninth in the Southland. Edwards is also eighth in the conference in strikeouts with 48.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is also coming off a midweek loss. The Islanders' rally fell short at Prairie View A&M as they lost 10-8. The Islanders scored four unanswered runs but it wasn't enough to overcome the Panthers who stole six bases.
Issac Webb is second in the conference in stolen bases with 15. He's also hitting .364 which ranks fifth in the league. Watson is second in the conference in strikeouts with 65 heading into the weekend.
