Privateers to Close April at Southern Miss

NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers will begin a road week in Hattiesburg with their second meeting against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park.

STARTERS
UNO: LHP-Ryan Delorbe vs. USM: RHP-Drew Druckenmiller

The Privateers snagged the series finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5-3 on Sunday. Cortez Dennis picked up his first win of the season after his longest outing, which encompassed six innings. Dennis threw 63 of his 86 pitches for strikes in the victory.

Ryan Delorbe has 11 appearances of at least two innings this season. Delorbe has held opponents to a batting average of .183 and has only walked four batters in his last 22.2 innings. This will be his second start of 2024.

With three weeks to go, the Privateers are sitting in third in the Southland standings. They are three games behind Lamar whom they still have to play in the last weekend. New Orleans is one game behind second place Nicholls heading into the last three weeks. The Privateers swept the Colonels in the opening conference weekend.

The Privateers turned four double plays over the weekend against A&M-Corpus Christi, and now lead the Southland in twin killings with 34. That total also slid into the top 50 nationally after the weekend's slate of games.

The scoreboard read out double figures in runs for both New Orleans and Southern Miss in the first meeting of 2024, which the Golden Eagles won 15-10 on Feb. 21. It was the highest scoring game between the two sides since Mar. 4, 1998 when both teams combined for 26 runs.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Southern Miss under first year head coach, Christian Ostrander is 27-17 on the season. The Golden Eagles lost two of three to nationally ranked Louisiana over the weekend. The two sides split a pair of 3-2 decisions before the Cajuns won the series finale 13-7.

Dalton McIntyre is hitting .383 for the Golden Eagles this year. Davis Gillespie follows with a .305 batting average. Slade Wilks and Nick Monistere have combined for 79 RBI this season. Druckenmiller is getting his third starting call in 2024.

We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
