Five Privateers Qualify for NCAA East Regional in Lexington

MEET SCHEDULE | LIVE RESULTS | WATCH (ESPN+): Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The season isn't over for John Adesola, Jorim Bangue, Madonna Favour, Darryl George Jr., and Christopher Murphy as the quintet have qualified for the 2024 NCAA East Region in Lexington, Ky., next week.

Adesola is the first Privateer in school history to qualify for three separate events. The junior qualified in the 110-meter hurdles with a school record time of 13.67 at the Texas Invitational in April. That mark ranks No. 19 in the east region. He also qualified for the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.22 at the Texas Relays but will not participate in that discipline in Lexington. Finally, he was part of New Orleans' 4x100 team that is also headed to the East Regional.

Bangue will run in his second straight NCAA East Regional in the 110-meter hurdles after finishing 42nd last season with a time of 14.25. Bangue had the 38th fastest time in the east when he clocked a 13.878 – good for a silver medal at the Southland Championships a week ago.

Murphy saved his best for last – breaking his own school record four different times in the long jump at last weekend's Southland Championships. Coming into the meet, Chris had jumped a personal best 7.49 meters before seemingly growing wings in Houston. Murphy had jumps of 7.50, 7.63, and 7.71 meters before his final jump took him 7.74 meters to capture the silver medal. He qualifies with the 21st longest jump in the east region.

Adesola, George Jr., Favour, and Murphy are also the second straight Men's 4x100 quartet to qualify for the NCAA regionals for New Orleans. They have run under 40 seconds three different times this season, with their best time – 38.45 seconds – a third-place finish and new school record at the Texas Relays back in March. The foursome set the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 marks in school history this season.

Last season, New Orleans' 4x100-meter relay team of Ellis Cummings, Elliot Cummings, Mason Melancon, and Jayden Sloan just missed qualification for the NCAA Championships after finishing with a time of 39.99 - .01 seconds behind Alabama's 39.98 – the last team to qualify.

The top 12 finishers in each discipline will move on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on June 5-8 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. The last Privateer to qualify for the NCAA Championships was Ismael Kone, who ran both the 100-meter and 200-meter in the 2022 Championships.
