OFFICIAL SOUTHLAND RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS – Academic accolades continue to roll in for the University of New Orleans Track and Field program with the release of the Southland Conference's All-Academic Track and Field teams on Thursday afternoon.
New Orleans boasted a program record seven student-athletes on this year's team. On the women's side Alimot Alowone,
Irene Bonanomi,
Rebecca DeKay and
Alexandra Weir were chosen by the league's track and field communications members, academic advisors and head coaches.
Jorim Bangue,
Cade Litolff and
Gary Sandrock represent the men's team following their efforts in the classroom this year.
Weir earned the second Southland All-Academic team selection of her career with a perfect 4.0 grade point average while working on her Master's in Urban Development. DeKay was an automatic selection due to her 10,000-meter gold medal at the Southland Outdoor Championships but also had a 4.0 while working on her MBA. Bonanomi and Sandrock also had perfect grade point averages while pursuing their Masters' and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry.
Earlier this week, 26 track and field student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's List. Joining the seven Southland All-Academic team members were

Alex Soileaux, and
Sophia Wolf.
The Southland All-Academic Track and Field team consists of student-athletes with a minimum 3.25 grade point average who have completed at least a full year at their institution before the spring semester and have participated in at least half of the team's meets during the season.
The Southland Commissioner's List recognizes student-athletes who earned at least a 3.0 grade point average and were eligible to compete in their sport during the season.
