NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team received an American Baseball Coaches Association academic excellence award. The list of award winning schools was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the cumulative 2023-24 academic year.
26 baseball student-athletes made the spring Southland Commissioner's List and five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. As a team, the baseball squad earned a 3.061 GPA in the spring semester.
Nathan Blasick and
Colton Mercer also made the Southland All-Academic teams. Blasick was recently drafted by the Colorado Rockies and had a 4.0 GPA with a degree in Finance. Mercer also received his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in the spring and was a first team All-Southland pitcher in 2024.

Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association members have broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
