NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers had 10 returning baseball student-athletes who participated in different summer leagues and engineered key contributions to several teams during the summer of 2024.
Four Privateers went to the Acadiana Cane Cutters of the Texas Collegiate League, headed up by
Bryce Calloway. The two-way standout hit .291 with 12 doubles and 33 RBI along with 15 stolen bases. On the mound, Calloway pitched to a 3.27 ERA in seven appearances with two wins and a save.
Calloway was named to the All-TCL Team at the conclusion of the season and was part of the TCL All-Star team. The Cane Cutters made the TCL championship game.
Alexander Saunier got 65 at-bats with Acadiana and he turned that into a .323 batting average with six doubles and nine RBI.
Tyler Velino and
Trey Usey combined to pitch 63.1 innings over 20 appearances (13 starts) with 43 strikeouts.
Diego Villescas, off his Second Team All-Southland selection, went to the Strasburg Express of the Valley Baseball League. He made the All-Star team and hit .340 in 53 at-bats. Villescas had 11 RBI, 10 walks and seven stolen bases.
Jayden Lopez was on a championship team in the Florida League. Lopez pitched in six games for the Leesburg Lightning. He went 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA and struck out 10 batters in 8.2 innings after redshirting the '24 season at New Orleans.
Dalton Hurst was just shy of the .300 mark: he hit .297 and added 11 stolen bases along with four doubles for the Tri-City Chili Peppers of the Coastal Plains League.
Marco Mueses went to the Oneonta Outlaws of the Perfect Game Collegiate League and hit .281 with eight RBI in 18 games.
Kai Hori hit at a high clip in fewer at-bats. Hori went to the Abilene Flying Bison of the Mid-America League and went 9-for-25 at the plate, translating to a .360 clip. He drove in six runs as well.
Cade Mitchell pitched 4.1 innings for the Atlanta Crackers of the Sunbelt League. In that span, he struck out eight batters.
