USTFCCCA RANKINGS: MEN | WOMEN | SPONSOR THE BATTLE FOR NEW ORLEANS

NEW ORLEANS – For the fourth straight season the University of New Orleans men's and women's cross country programs have both earned preseason recognition by the United States Track and Field / Cross Country Coaches Association with the release of the regional polls on Monday afternoon.

The New Orleans women are ranked No. 12 – the same ranking they had at the conclusion of last season. UNO's ladies have been ranked for 20 straight South Central Regional polls dating back to 2021 and have been ranked No. 12 in five of the last six polls.

The Privateer women start their season on Friday at Lake Oaks Park with a 4K set for 5:15 p.m. The returners include Irene Bonanomi, Emma Bourg, Oxana Bonjorn-Giros, and Sophia Wolf. Additions to the squad include international freshmen Petra Imre (Hungary), Annika Metzger (Germany) and Michela Papalia (Italy). New Orleans Track and Field graduate student Michelle Folk will also run unattached.

The New Orleans men start the season ranked No. 14 – also the same ranking that they had at the conclusion of last season. This marks the 25th straight week the UNO men have been ranked. Last season the Privateer men climbed as high as No. 11 during the third week of the season.

The Privateer men will run 5K to start off the season starting at around 5:45 p.m. on Friday evening. Mason Appleton, Antonio Delgado, Christian Francisco, and Gary Sandrock return from last season, as well as Josh Johnston who joined the distance program last January. Privateer senior Evan Pardo will run unattached. Newcomers include Colorado graduate transfer Hunter Appleton, and Terrebonne High School product Alex Williams.

The 2024 Cross Country season kicks off on Fri. Nov. 1 at Lake Oaks Park when the Privateers cohost the "Battle of New Orleans" with Tulane across the street from campus. Raising Cane's will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the New Orleans Track and Field / Cross Country program.

Fans can follow @PrivateersTFXC on X/Twitter and Instagram for updates. Information on live results will be made available later this week.

And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play, and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
