Privateers Make Short Trip to Tulane for First Game of 2025 Pelican Cup

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will play the first of the three-game Pelican Cup when they head uptown to face the Tulane Green Wave on Tuesday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The game will be on ESPN+ and on 106.1 FM The Ticket.

PROBABLE STARTERS
UNO-RHP Cortez Dennis (0-0, 0.00) vs. TULANE-Blaise Wilcenski (1-0, 10.80)

The Privateers picked off the back end of what turned into a three-game series against West Georgia after the last game was canceled due to weather and field conditions. In the 13-6 win, Bryce Calloway capped a monster weekend with two homers and six RBI.

Calloway went 8-for-12 at the plate and hit four homers while driving in eight runs. The senior leads the team in all of those categories after the first weekend. As a team, the Privateers hit nine home runs against West Georgia.

New Orleans also got big results from a couple of new additions to the lineup in opening weekend. Bryan Loriga went 5-for-12 with two home runs and four RBI against the Wolves. Collin Husser had two doubles and a home run in his first series in a Privateer uniform.

Dennis started the first game of the Pelican Cup last season. He went five innings and allowed three earned runs (four total) while recording five strikeouts. The senior had two wins and two saves in his first season with the Privateers.

The Pelican Cup was brought back in 2018. After a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021, it returned again in 2022. The Green Wave are the current holders of the cup after going 2-1 last season. The Privateers have won the series three times (2018, 2019, 2023).

The all-time series encompasses nearly a full Major League Baseball season. This will be the 159th meeting between the two squads. Tulane leads the series 90-68.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Tulane swept their opening series of the season as they won all three against the Omaha Mavericks. The Green Wave hit .323 as a unit against Omaha pitching. Gavin Schulz and Mattias Haas led the way by combining for 11 hits and 12 RBI.

Tulane was picked to finish third in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll behind East Carolina and Wichita State.

Wilcenski got two wins in relief last season in the first two games of the Pelican Cup. In six innings of work against the Privateers, he allowed one run on seven hits and had eight strikeouts.
