NEW ORLEANS –
Brooks DuBose, entering his third season on the Lakefront, has been elevated to full time assistant on the staff after spending the first two years as a volunteer assistant.
DuBose, who was brought onto the staff ahead of the 2023 season, has been a key component in the Privateers' defense. In his first two years, the Privateers have put up top five seasons in program history in fielding percentage.
Their .981 fielding percentage in 2023 was a school record. The .971 fielding percentage in 2024 was fourth highest in school history. Also, the Privateers have led the Southland in double plays turned in both of those seasons. In 2023, New Orleans finished tenth in the nation with 53 double plays.
"Brooks brings a high level of energy and the players are well-acquainted with his coaching style and personality," said Head Coach
Dax Norris. "He has put in the work and truly earned this promotion. Brooks understands the significance of the game's fundamentals and is fully committed to the vision of this program. His leadership skills have been instrumental in preparing the team for the 2025 season."
In 2024, the Privateers finished the season with their highest stolen base total since 2016 and two Privateers (
Mitchell Sanford and
Diego Villescas) had double digit steals.
A graduate of Covenant College in 2021, DuBose earned All-Conference honors in his senior season. From there, he joined the staff at Lee University in 2022 and the Flames won the Gulf South Conference championship that season.
DuBose's first stint in coaching was in 2019 when he was coaching the Spearfish Sasquatch, a summer league team in South Dakota. That summer, Spearfish set a team record for stolen bases.
