NEW ORLEANS – Three New Orleans Privateers baseball student-athletes made the preseason All-Southland Team, which was released by the conference office on Thursday morning.
Bryce Calloway (First Team) and
Diego Villescas (Second Team) were automatic selections after making the postseason All-Southland Team in 2024.
Tristan Moore earned First Team honors at outfield in the preseason.
Calloway was named First Team last year at utility. The Privateers' two-way player manned first base and pitched mostly in late inning situations last season. In his first season on the Lakefront, Calloway hit .313 with nine homers and 39 RBI. He played in 48 games with 40 starts. As a pitcher, he appeared in eight games (six in relief) and accrued two wins and two saves.
Villescas was Second Team All-Southland at second base last season. Villescas also played at shortstop last year and wound up hitting .306 for the 2024 season. The Pharr, Texas native hit seven homers and drove in 29 runs. He also scored 50 runs and was efficient on the base paths (10 steals in 11 attempts). He also added nine doubles and two triples.
Moore returns to the Lakefront after a highly successful first stint that saw him win 2023 Southland Hitter of the Year. Moore hit .318 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI, which also earned him Second Team ABCA All-Region honors that season. Moore played in 58 games with 55 starts and had a slugging percentage of .650.
The Privateers were picked just behind defending champion, Nicholls who was selected fifth after a largely new roster and coaching staff. Lamar, who won the regular season title in 2024, was picked to repeat that again with 18 of the 22 first place votes.
Southeastern was picked second and got the other four first place votes. McNeese was picked third and Southland newcomer, UTRGV was picked fourth.
The season starts for the Privateers against West Georgia on Friday, Feb. 14.
