NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will face off against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in their second match of the season on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
A largely new look women's team was resolute in their season opener against Mississippi Gulf Coast as they won 7-0. Four Privateers made their debut back on Jan. 29 and all of them collected wins in singles and doubles.
Iris Danne,
Fleur Sprengers,
Ananya Dhankar and
Nouray Khaled all won their matches in singles in straight sets. All four were also instrumental in doubles as the Privateers only dropped five games between the three doubles matches.
Meanwhile, All-Southland returner,
Anastassia Kouchnareva won her singles match 6-2, 6-4 and teamed up with Khaled for a 6-3 victory in doubles. Kouchnareva is the team's leading returner in wins from last season.
Also,
Kateryna Kalistratova, who returns from last year's team only lost three games combined between singles and doubles. Kalistratova won her singles match at flight three 6-1, 6-1.
In the last four meetings, the Privateers and Golden Eagles have alternated wins and losses. Southern Miss won in 2014 and 2023. The Privateers secured victories in 2013 and 2022.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) already have a win over a Southland foe under their belt. In their most recent match, Southern Miss scored a 4-2 victory over Northwestern State. The Golden Eagles opened the season with a victory against Chattanooga.
