NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will battle to retain the Pontchartrain Bowl as they take on the Southeastern Lions in a three-game series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
All games will be carried on ESPN+ and 106.7 FM The Ticket.
The Privateers (13-10, 6-6 SLC) won the first game in the battle for the Pelican Cup when they beat Tulane 7-6 on Tuesday night. Three early homers were backed up by 4.1 innings of scoreless relief from
Ira Austin and
Bryce Calloway to secure the win. Calloway picked up his sixth save of the year.
Calloway comes into the weekend with 10 homers, which has surpassed his total from 2024 (9). That total ranks 16
th in the nation while his saves total puts him in the top five nationally.
Bryan Loriga and
Dalton Hurst each had seven assists in two separate games during the Northwestern State series. The most assists by a Privateer in a game is 10 by Zach Liberto who did it in 2013 against West Virginia.
Grant Edwards and
Skylar Jones have led the way in ground outs generated. Edwards has a ground ball ratio of 1.4 and Jones has induced nearly twice as many ground outs (20) as fly outs (9).
The Privateers renew their annual rivalry which also has the Pontchartrain Bowl attached to it. Since 2015, the series winner between New Orleans and Southeastern takes the Pontchartrain Bowl, which was founded by members of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Southeastern won four of the first five Pontchartrain Bowl series, and the Privateers have won three of the last four.
