Privateers Conclude Homestand Against Southern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers conclude their eight-game homestand on Tuesday night when they take on the Southern Jaguars. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.

New Orleans is looking to bounce back from a tough end to the weekend after losing the last two games and the Pontchartrain Bowl to the Southeastern Lions.

Grant Edwards earned Southland Pitcher of the Week honors after being the first to hand Brennan Stuprich a loss. Edwards went 7.0 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out eight in a win against the Lions on 3/28.

The Privateer pitching staff had 37 strikeouts over the weekend against Southeastern. It was the most in a three-game series since they accrued 40 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in April 2018. The last time they had more than 37 strikeouts in a series was 40 in four games against Youngstown State (2022).

The Privateers (14-12) have 57 doubles as a team this season, which is second in the Southland only behind Lamar who has 59. That total ranks them 58th out of 299 in the nation. Bryan Loriga leads the way individually with 12 doubles.

Tristan Moore homered twice on Sunday against Southeastern bringing his season total to six. In his Privateer career, he has 25 home runs which is three shy of breaking into the top ten in program history. Stuart Weidie and Issac Williams are tied for ninth with 28 homers each.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Southern (10-15) also went 1-2 on the weekend after losing a series to Bethune-Cookman. The Jaguars are 3-6 in SWAC play this season.

Cardell Thibodeaux is eighth in the nation in batting average, hitting at a .462 clip. Thibodeaux and Taj Bates both have over 30 RBI this season and rank in the top 75 nationally in that category.

Southern has also put the wheels in motion with 86 stolen bases. That total ranks fourth in the nation only behind VMI (148), Wofford (98) and Mount St. Mary's (87).
