The Privateers (7-4, 2-1) are coming off their season high run total in a 16-10 win against Jackson State on Wednesday night. New Orleans hit three home runs on the evening to run their season total to 15 homers.
Nine pitchers threw and three (
Canaan Clayton,
Cade Mitchell,
Gus Rogers) made their season debut on the mound.
Myles Green picked up his first win in a Privateer uniform as New Orleans moved to 69-16-1 all-time against the Tigers.
Bryce Calloway continues to put up stellar numbers at the plate. After a five-RBI game on Wednesday, Calloway is now second in the league in batting average (.477), tied for first in homers (6) and second in RBI (19). He also leads the Southland in slugging percentage at .932.
Calloway and
Adrian Dominguez hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning. That's the third time the Privateers had back-to-back homers in a game this season. It also happened at West Georgia and South Alabama.
This will be the first time since UTRGV was formed by two different schools that the Vaqueros and Privateers will face off on the diamond. The last time New Orleans played UT-Pan American (one of the two schools merged to form UTRGV), the Privateers swept the series in 2008 on the road. The two teams were former conference rivals and played every season from 1988-1998.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UTRGV (8-2, 3-0) swept the defending regular season champion, Lamar last weekend to open conference play. The Vaqueros currently have an RPI of 3 after their first 10 games of the season, which include wins against Dallas Baptist and Houston.
The Vaqueros pitching staff is ranked 23
rd in the nation in ERA at 3.14. Loa and Limas both have an ERA under 1.00
