Privateers Step Out of Conference to Face UNC-Asheville

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will step out of conference this weekend when they take on the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs in a three-game series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Privateers are coming off a 15-4 win on Wednesday night against Southern. Six Privateers had at least two hits on the night and New Orleans scored 10 of their runs in the first three innings on their way to outscoring Southern 35-13 in two contests.
 
The Privateers (16-15) have scored 10 or more runs 10 times this season and are 9-1 in those contests. New Orleans also has four run-rule victories on the year. Their .313 team batting average is tied for first in the Southland with Lamar.
 
The pitching staff has 10 or more strikeouts in seven of the last 12 games heading into the weekend. They have 275 strikeouts on the season. At this rate, they are on pace to finish the regular season with 465 strikeouts, which would be the seventh highest single season total in program history.
 
As a team, the Privateers are hitting .323 with runners in scoring position in 316 total at-bats. Matt Gonzalez is 7-for-11 in those situations. Bryce Calloway has the most at-bats (48) with runners in scoring position and is hitting .396.
 
New Orleans faced UNC-Asheville in a three-game series at home in the 2007 season, the only meetings in program history between the two sides. The Privateers swept that series outscoring the Bulldogs 24-11.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UNC-Asheville (11-20) picked off the finale of their series by a 4-3 score over Winthrop last weekend. Their scheduled midweek game against Queens College was canceled due to field conditions.
 
Crum, who will start on Sunday, is the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week. He pitched seven innings and struck out five in his first career start last Sunday. Crum carries a 2.10 ERA over 30.0 innings into the weekend.
 
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Rylen Stockton who is hitting a team-best .333 with seven doubles. Patrick Gillen is hitting .316 with 18 RBI on the season.
