Privateers Host Conference Co-Leaders, HCU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers dive back into Southland play starting Thursday as they host a series against the HCU Huskies. First pitch times are 6:30 pm on Thursday, 6:30 pm on Friday and 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Thursday: UNO-RHP Grant Edwards vs. HCU-RHP Louis Castano
Friday: UNO-LHP Zach Longshore vs. HCU-RHP Parker Edwards
Saturday: UNO-TBA vs. HCU-RHP Joshua Carvalho
 
The Privateers are coming off a triumph on Tuesday that brought the Pelican Cup back to the Lakefront after they defeated the Tulane Green Wave 10-5. New Orleans took advantage of 11 Green Wave walks and Jake D'Altrui hit a three-run homer as part of a six-run first inning.
 
Including the win on Tuesday, the Privateers have scored 10 or more runs 12 times this season and are 11-1 in those contests. They are also in the top 30 in the nation in team batting average heading into the weekend.
 
Ira Austin pitched two scoreless innings of relief and in his second, got all three outs on 3-2 pitches. Opposing hitters are 1-for-10 against Austin with six strikeouts in full counts and Austin has thrown nearly 77 percent of his pitches for strikes in those counts in 2025.
 
The Privateers have 19 games with 10 or more hits this season entering the weekend. Four Privateers have at least 10 games with two or more hits, led by Bryan Loriga and Bryce Calloway who each have 16 multi-hit games. The Privateers are in the top 60 nationally in total hits this season.
 
Zach Longshore struck out 11 batters over 5.0 innings while on a pitch count against UNC Asheville and allowed just one hit. In his last three starts since getting back into the rotation, Longshore has allowed five runs in 18 innings and has 25 strikeouts to just six walks.
 
New Orleans is 20-9 all-time against HCU, but the Huskies won last year's series 2-1 in Houston. It was the first time the Huskies won a series against New Orleans since 2014.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
HCU (22-13, 14-4) is coming off a midweek loss to Texas State. The Huskies enter the weekend in a three-way tie for first place in the Southland standings and have not lost a series since conference play started.
 
The Huskies are hitting .284 as a team entering the weekend. Parker Edwards has led the charge both at the plate and on the mound. He's hitting .320 with a team-leading seven homers. He is also a regular starter in the weekend rotation with 42.1 innings pitched on the year.
