NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Track and Field team heads to Ruston for the Louisiana Tech Jim Mize Invitational at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex taking place Saturday, April 19.
The Privateers will be represented by 29 athletes in Ruston. The team is returning to the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex after competing there last season.
Emma Bourg returns to Ruston after a dominant performance at last year's meet. In her freshman season, Bourg won her first collegiate outdoor race in the 5K with a time of 18:17.21. She will be returning to the track tomorrow, running the 1500m and 800m.
Other returning athletes include
Helen Baumgarten set to compete in the 200m, High Jump, and Javelin; Christian Davis with the Discus and Hammer Throw;
Darryl George Jr. running the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m;
Christopher Murphy running the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m;
Tyler Mitchell throwing Javelin;
Mason Appleton and
Josh Johnston running the 1500m; and
Michelle Folk running in the 4x400m relay.
Jace Phelan, a walk-on senior, will be back to throwing the javelin this weekend after a shining performance in Oxford. He threw a personal best that became the longest javelin throw from New Orleans since 2013.
Tomorrow's events begin for the Privateers with the men's javelin throw at 10:00 am;
Tyler Mitchell and
Jace Phelan are set to compete. The final scheduled events for New Orleans on Saturday are the men's and women's 4x400m relay starting at 4:10 pm. Metzger, Lemoine, Mattos, and Folk make up the women's team while Williams, Cerrato, Pardo, and Johnston complete the men's.
