Privateers to Square Off Against Lamar in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers look to continue their hot streak this weekend as they take a visit to Beaumont to face the Lamar Cardinals in a three-game series starting Friday at Vincent-Beck Stadium. First pitch for the series opener is set for 6 p.m.

The Privateers' midweek game against South Alabama was washed out due to the combination of heavy rain and field conditions. New Orleans enters the week 23-15 on the season and 10-11 in conference.

New Orleans is on an eight-game winning streak entering the week, their longest since 2008 when they won 13 consecutive games. The Privateers have put together a double digit winning streak on nine separate occasions in their program's history.

Coming into the weekend, the Privateers are seventh in the standings and have a four-game lead on the first team out of the tournament (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

Grant Edwards has been an innings eater and a strikeout artist. He's gone at least six innings in seven starts this season. His 71 strikeouts rank second in the conference heading into the weekend.

A youth movement has been a part of the surge on the mound for the Privateers. Redshirt freshman, Carson Kimball has not allowed an earned run in his last three appearances and has 19 strikeouts in 15 innings this season. Aiden Torrez got his first start last Sunday and he has allowed just two runs over his last two appearances (8.2 innings).

New Orleans is 58-56 all-time against Lamar. The Cardinals have won 19 of 29 meetings since the Privateers entered the Southland. Last season, Lamar won the series against New Orleans 2-1.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Lamar is 33-11 on the season and they are one of two teams in the Southland who have already crested the 30-win mark along with Southeastern. The Cardinals played two midweek games: a 7-6 loss to Houston and a 14-3 win over Prairie View A&M.

The Cardinals are hitting .309 as a team. Damian Ruiz leads the Southland in doubles (17) and runs scored (64). The Lamar pitching staff is second in the conference in ERA with a 4.06. Chris Olivier is fifth in the Southland in ERA at 3.09.
