NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Track and Field team will be traveling with a condensed squad to Baton Rouge–the second time this season–to compete at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet on Saturday, April 26.
New Orleans is not new to the Alumni Gold meet. Last year in Baton Rouge, the Privateers saw eight personal records broken. Among the notable athletes were
Evan Pardo and
Darryl George Jr., who broke their PBs in the men's 1500m and the men's 400m, respectively. Both men will be returning to these events tomorrow in search of new personal bests. Other returners to LSU's Alumni Gold include
Helen Baumgarten,
Christopher Murphy,
Emma Bourg,
Madonna Favour, and
Mason Appleton.
George Jr. is also set to compete in both the men's 4x100m and the men's 4x400m. The New Orleans 4x1 team consisting of George Jr., Murphy, Favour, and freshman
Daryl Bachmann is coming off a notable season best performance last weekend at the Jim Mize Invitational. Their 39.85 performance made them the No. 4 top-performing team in school history. They are returning to the track for another go tomorrow.
Metzger, Baumgarten, and Skolasinska are also following personal best performances from last weekend. Walk-on senior
Jace Phelan hopes to continue his fast improvement in the men's javelin throw tomorrow.
New Orleans will have 15 athletes competing at Bernie Moore Stadium due to the meet's competitive performance qualifications.
Tomorrow's events begin for the Privateers with the men's 4x100m relay at 12:40 pm. The last scheduled event for New Orleans on Saturday is the men's 4x400m relay at 4:35 pm.
