NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will play a pair of midweek road games in the Magnolia State as they take on #22 Southern Miss on Tuesday night followed by a visit to Jackson State on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Privateers fell in all three games at Lamar with a pair of one-run losses to start the weekend. New Orleans is 23-18 overall and 10-14 in conference play, which places them in seventh heading into the last two weeks of the season. The Privateers are two games up on both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls.
Carson Kimball threw his longest outing on 4/26 at Lamar when he went 3.2 shutout innings. Kimball has 7.2 innings worked over his last four appearances without an earned run and has lowered his ERA to 3.37 on the season.
The Privateer infield turned five double plays over the weekend at Lamar. It marked the fourth series they had at least four double plays turned this season (Boston College, Stephen F. Austin, UIW). The Privateers rank fifth in the Southland in double plays turned with 33.
Adrian Dominguez has been masterful in pinch hit situations. In six pinch hit at-bats this season, he has five hits after he added another pinch hit RBI double last weekend at Lamar. Dominguez is hitting .426 in 47 at-bats.
The Privateers last defeated Southern Miss in 2023. Their last win in Hattiesburg against the Golden Eagles came in 2019.
New Orleans defeated Jackson State 16-10 back on Mar. 5 of this season at Maestri Field.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Southern Miss (31-13) ranks 15
th in the country in home runs with 74 entering this week. They have three players with double-digit homers on the season led by Nick Monistere who has 16. They have won five straight after sweeping Appalachian State last weekend and are 15-6 against Sun Belt foes.
Jackson State (22-17) is also on a five-game winning streak entering the week. They are 10-10 in SWAC play after sweeping Alabama A&M and Alcorn State in the last two weekends. The Tigers are hitting .305 as a team and Joseph Eichelberger has a team-high 15 doubles this season.
