NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will play a pair of midweek games on the road when they face Jackson State on Tuesday and Southern on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Privateers lost the series finale at McNeese in the ninth inning 3-2. The Privateers are now standing at 15-15 overall and seventh in the Southland standings at 7-11.
The Privateers pitching staff has 10 or more strikeouts in seven of the last 11 games heading into the week. Their 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings ranks second in the Southland only trailing McNeese (10.2). They are 53rd in the country in strikeouts per nine.
Collin Loupe has taken a big step forward this season. After hitting .260 in 2024, Loupe so far this season has raised his average over 80 points to a .345 clip. He has nine multi-hit games this year compared to seven all of last season in 42 games (38 starts).
Tristan Moore has nine RBI in his last five games played. In that same stretch, he is 10-for-17 at the plate. Moore is hitting .321 with 10 doubles and eight homers this season.
The Privateers are playing a pair of teams they have scored a bunch of runs against. New Orleans notched 16 runs in their first meeting against Jackson State. In the first meeting against their Wednesday opponent in Southern, New Orleans went for a season-high 20 runs.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Jackson State was swept over the weekend by Florida A&M as the Tigers were outscored 29-10 in the three-game series. Joseph Eichelberger leads the Tigers with a .406 batting average and 26 RBI.
Southern won back-to-back games to finish the weekend 2-1 against Grambling. There were a combined total of 79 runs in the series between the Jaguars and Tigers. Leading hitter, Cardell Thibodeaux had seven hits over the weekend for Southern.
