New Privateers Head Coach, Andrew Gipson Tabbed ABCA Region Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Privateers new head baseball coach, Andrew Gipson was awarded Div. III Region Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association for the recently completed 2025 season.

At Belhaven, Gipson led a historic season for the Blazers. In his second year at the helm, Gipson led Belhaven to a 34-15 record and the school's first NCAA Regional appearance in its history. That turned into a first ever Super Regional berth after Belhaven went undefeated through the Regional while collectively outscoring their opponents 30-7.

The Blazers' .694 winning percentage was their best in a season since 2011. They also earned an at-large big to the tournament with a top 20 NPI ranking.

In 2025, eight Blazers made the Collegiate Conference of the South all-conference team. Of those, there were four first team selections in JD Weed, Nick Thornton, Blake McCarthy and Kade May.

There were three ABCA/Rawlings all-region selections in May, Weed and Tristan Pearson. May went 8-2 in 14 starts with a 2.46 ERA. Pearson hit .391 with a 1.002 OPS. Weed hit .316 with 21 extra base hits and 40 RBI.

Gipson, who was announced as the ninth head coach in program history, will officially begin his tenure on the Lakefront on July 1. He previously spent seven years in the Southland while on staff at Southeastern.
