NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will open their home slate this weekend with the first ever Maestri Classic starting on Friday. The Privateers will host Alabama A&M, Northern Kentucky and ULM. All first pitches for Privateer games are scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN+.
The Privateers got their first win of the season with a strong performance on Wednesday night in a 14-5 win over Southern. The Privateers hit three home runs as a team and drew 17 free passes in the victory.
Miles Curley drove in four runs on Wednesday and moved his RBI total to six in the first four games, assuming the team lead. Curley has also played three different positions in the young season: he opened the year at third base and has also manned first base and right field.
New Orleans used nine pitchers for an inning each in the win against the Jaguars. Thus far, the Privateers have used 22 pitchers on the mound.
Rex Henderson,
Ethan Hunt,
Brock Hill,
Logan Waldschmidt and
Josh Hoffmann all made their season debuts on the bump on Wednesday night.
William Andrade, coming off a stellar performance in 3.1 innings of relief last Saturday, will get the start on Friday against Alabama A&M. Andrade becomes the first freshman to start a season opener at New Orleans since Steven Swift got the Opening Day nod in 2019. Andrade had six strikeouts against Georgia State last weekend.
The Privateers played Alabama A&M in a three-game series in 2024 and swept them with a pair of run rule victories. New Orleans outscored the Bulldogs 42-10 in that series. New Orleans is 31-29 all-time against ULM and has never played Northern Kentucky.
