NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will conclude a nine-game homestand on Tuesday night when they take on the Jackson State Tigers at Maestri Field. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
New Orleans won the final game of their opening conference series 12-6 against Stephen F. Austin. A six-run eighth inning helped the Privateers pull away and
Luke Lycette earned his second save of the season.
Tyler Velino also picked up his first Div. I win.
Sunday marked the fourth time the Privateers reached double figures in runs. They have won all four of those games. Currently, New Orleans is fifth in the Southland in runs scored with 80 through 12 games. Their .293 team batting average also ranks fifth in the conference.
On the mound, the Privateers posted their lowest walk rate in each of the last two games of the series. Over the last 18 innings, Privateer pitchers conceded just four walks. They are fifth in the league in team ERA and have lowered that mark by nearly two full runs in this home stretch.
Dylan Biddick and
Karson Evans have led the way in getting on base for the Privateers. Both players rank in the top ten and both have an on-base percentage of over .500 entering the week. Biddick ranks sixth in the conference on OPS.
The Privateers have won four of the last six meetings against the Tigers. Last season the two teams split the season series and there were 55 combined runs scored in two games. New Orleans won 16-10 at home and Jackson State defended their home field with a 15-14 win.
