Privateers Battle For Pontchartrain Bowl Against Southeastern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers and Southeastern Lions will renew their annual battle for the Pontchartrain Bowl when they start a three-game series on Friday in Hammond at 6 p.m. The two teams will play Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

ROTATION
FRIDAY: UNO-RHP William Andrade vs. SLU-RHP Truitt Webb
SATURDAY: UNO-LHP Bryson Goff vs. SLU-RHP Lakin Polk
SUNDAY: UNO-TBA vs. SLU-RHP Blake Lobell

The Privateers notched their third shutout win of the season when they blanked Jackson State 7-0 on Tuesday night. Six pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout. It's the most shutouts in a season since New Orleans had four in 2017.

William Andrade emerged in his last start, becoming the first Privateer to record 10 or more strikeouts in an outing this season. Andrade became the third freshman since 2015 to strike out at least 10 batters in a game joining Shawn Semple ('15) and Brandon Mitchell ('19).

Eli Tidwell scored multiple runs in a game for the eighth time this season when he touched home twice in a win against Jackson State. Tidwell leads the team in runs scored and is tied for fifth in the conference with 24 runs.

Privateer pitchers have started to pile the strikeouts on a little more of late. In five of their last 11 games, pitchers have racked up 10 or more strikeouts combined. In the first 16 games of the season that only happened once.

The Privateers and Lions have played for the Pontchartrain Bowl every year since 2015 with the exception of the COVID shortened 2020 season. Southeastern currently has the trophy and has won it six times to the Privateers' four. The road team has won three series (SLU in 2015 and 2019, UNO in 2024). That excludes the split series in 2016 and 2017.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Southeastern comes in with a 13-12 mark overall and a 5-4 record against Southland opponents. The Lions' midweek consisted of a 9-3 loss to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Peyton Woods and Ben Robichaux lead the offense in batting average at a .333 and .322 clip respectively. Webb will be getting his first start in a Lions uniform on Friday after appearing in 23 games in relief between 2025 and this season.
