Privateers Make Long Trip to Edinburg to Face UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team will play their first conference road series as they make the long trip to Edinburg to face the UTRGV Vaqueros. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a 1 p.m. start scheduled for Sunday.

SUNDAY-UNO LHP Bryson Goff vs. UTRGV RHP Mason Engel
 
The Privateers scored in double digits for the fifth time this season when they got 11 runs in an 11-6 win against Jackson State at home on Tuesday. Kruise Newman hit his fourth homer of the season and notched the Privateers' second grand slam in the process. Luke Hymel picked up his first win of the season on the mound.
 
New Orleans is hitting .294 as a team, which ranks third in the conference only behind Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The offense also ranks tied for second in home runs with 15 and tied for fourth in runs scored with 91.
 
Adrian Dominguez has a hit in eight consecutive games entering the weekend. Dominguez, who hit .393 last season, is checking in with a batting average of .343. In that stretch he has four multi-hit games.
 
Evan Rogers and Newman each had a four-RBI game on Tuesday against Jackson State. The Privateers have five players who have recorded four or more RBI in a game thus far. Dylan Biddick, Miles Curley and Jake D'Altrui also fall into that category.
 
The Privateers were swept by UTRGV at Maestri Field last season, the first time they played the Vaqueros since the school merged in 2013.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UTRGV is hitting .222 which is last in the Southland heading into the weekend and their 68 runs scored are only ahead of Lamar. Thayer, who is scheduled to start on Saturday, is fourth in the league in ERA (1.17) and second in opponent batting average (.137). The Vaqueros were swept by Lamar in the opening weekend of conference play.
