Privateers Add Second Midweek Game Against Mississippi Valley State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers start the week with a schedule change. Instead of a single game, the Privateers will now play two in the midweek against Mississippi Valley State. Tuesday's 6:30 p.m. first pitch will be followed by a newly added 2 p.m. contest on Wednesday against the Delta Devils at Maestri Field.

Tuesday's game will be on ESPN+.

STARTERS:
TUESDAY-UNO RHP Rex Henderson vs. MVSU RHP Logan Darnell
WEDNESDAY-UNO RHP JB Landrum vs. MVSU RHP Chris Brown

The Privateers (7-9) won the last game of the weekend at UTRGV. New Orleans took the lead in the fourth inning and never relented in a 13-6 victory. Lane Alack got his first save of the year and every Privateer starter got a hit.

The Privateers are hitting .357 as a team through the first 16 games in bases loaded situations. That includes two grand slams (Jake D'Altrui and Kruise Newman). The team leader in RBI in bases loaded situations is Evan Rogers who has seven. Rogers also has a hit in all three of his at-bats with the bases loaded.

Newman has six home runs which ranks one behind Armani Raygoza for the Southland Conference lead. Newman had a two-homer game on Saturday against UTRGV and his .640 slugging percentage ranks seventh in the conference.

Eddie Castillo made his season debut on Saturday against UTRGV and made an immediate impact at the plate in his first two games. He had two doubles in his season debut and followed that up with his first homer of the year on Sunday. He also reached base six times in nine plate appearances.

New Orleans has dominated Mississippi Valley State in the all-time series. They are 8-0 against the Delta Devils and have outscored them 125-24 collectively in those games. The 35 runs put up against MVSU in 2023 marked a program record and the most they had scored in a game since 1994.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Mississippi Valley State (3-10) picked off the series finale against UT-Martin with a 5-3 victory on Sunday. The Delta Devils' other two wins have come against Jackson State and Alcorn State.

Eric Williams leads the Delta Devils in several offensive categories including batting average (.326), runs (10), doubles (4) and RBI (8). As a team, Mississippi Valley State is hitting .228 entering the week.
