NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers will host the South Alabama Jaguars ahead of their penultimate weekend of conference play on Wednesday night at Maestri Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Privateers won the series opener against Lamar but were defeated over the next two games, which puts them two games behind a tie for the eighth spot in the standings with two weeks to play.
Eli Tidwell leads the team and ranks ninth in the Southland in runs scored with 38. Tidwell has played three different positions defensively (3B, CF, 2B). He also has hit in seven different spots in the lineup this season with the most at-bats coming in the leadoff spot. Tidwell has 81 at-bats as a leadoff hitter this season.
Miles Curley returned to the lineup two weeks ago against HCU. Since then, four of his five hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, two home runs). Of Curley's 28 hits this season he has 11 extra base hits. He has six doubles, one triple and four home runs.
New Orleans continues to be at the top of the list in double plays turned. The Privateers have 48 twin killings this season which leads the nation after they had two over the weekend against Lamar. They are tied with La Salle for the national lead heading into the week.
Dathan Cummings has started to rack up hits in his last two weeks. The sophomore has gone 7-for-17 in his last six games dating back to the series opener against HCU. Cummings has also scored eight runs in that stretch.
The Privateers won 2-1 in Mobile against the Jaguars earlier this season. It's the longest winning streak over South Alabama since New Orleans won eight straight from 1992-95.
