Privateers Take Trip to Illinois for Non-Conference Series

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The New Orleans Privateers make the long trip to Champaign this weekend when they face off against the Illinois Fighting Illini in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. All games will be carried on B1G Plus.

ROTATION:
FRIDAY: UNO-RHP William Andrade vs. ILL-LHP Regan Hall
SATURDAY: UNO-LHP Riley Marcotte vs. ILL-RHP Mitch Dye
SUNDAY: UNO-RHP Reid Leonard vs. ILL-LHP Aidan Flynn

The Privateers took #10 Southern Miss to the wire in a 3-2 loss on Tuesday evening in Hattiesburg. New Orleans drew nine free passes at the plate and Bryson Goff threw 5.2 innings while holding the Golden Eagles to two runs.

Evan Rogers had his team-leading 14th multi-hit game on Tuesday against the Golden Eagles when he had three hits and drove in both Privateer runs. Rogers is one of five Privateers with at least 10 games of two or more hits this season. He is joined by Eli Tidwell, Dylan Biddick, Owen Smith and Kruise Newman.

The Privateers had two quality starts last week from Reid Leonard and WIlliam Andrade. Prior to that, New Orleans had just one quality start all season (Andrade at Northwestern State). Starting pitchers have gone at least five innings in the last four Privateer games. That occurred seven times in the prior 31 total games.

This will be just the third B1G school the Privateers will visit in program history. New Orleans went to a regional hosted by Michigan in 1981. The Privateers also played Minnesota at the Metrodome in 2005. Against current B1G schools, the Privateers are 22-14 all-time. The team they have played the most is Michigan (6-3).

New Orleans is 3-2 all-time against Illinois. The teams last met in a three-game series in New Orleans in 1990 with the Privateers taking two of those three contests. Three of the five meetings have been decided by one or two runs.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Illinois moved to 16-15 on the season when they defeated Indiana State 7-3 in a midweek contest. The Fighting Illini are 7-8 in conference play. AJ Putty leads the offense in batting average (.331) and RBI (34). Illinois is hitting .260 as a team while their pitching staff has limited opponents to a .245 batting average. Hall leads the team on the mound in innings (46.2) and strikeouts (41).
