MANY, La. (Nov. 9, 2005) – The University of New Orleans golf team was the only squad under par as they captured the Battle of the Bend title Wednesday held at the par-72, 6,707 yard Cypress Bend Golf Club.
UNO (-4) won the tournament by nine strokes over runner-up Southeastern Louisiana (+5).
Anthony Cantu (72-71-70) led the Privateers with a three-under-par round for the tournament and finished second in the individual competition, two strokes behind Rice's Parker LaBarge (-5).
Adam Cornelson (70-71-73) was the only other Privateer who shot under par for the tournament. Cornelson (-2) ended the event tied for third. Jason Kuperman (71-71-74) finished in a sixth place tie at even par, while Kenji Murayama (71-71-76) ended the day at two-over-par for a 12th place showing. Mitch Ellis (71-81-81) tied for 50th.
Rice (+13) came in third behind UNO and Southeastern, while Tulane took fourth (+18). Sam Houston State (+23), Host Louisiana-Lafayette (+31), Houston (+35), Stephen F. Austin (+41), Texas State (+45), Nicholls State (+47), McNeese State (+54), Texas-Pan American (+57), and Centenary (+92), round out the field.
