Men's Golf Finishes Two Strokes Back in Fourth at Sun Belt

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Apr. 19, 2006) -
The University of New Orleans men's golf team made a late charge by shooting a 292 Wednesday, but a fell a couple of strokes short as they finished in fourth place at the Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Championships at the par-72, 6,968-yard PGA Village.

UNO (+13) ended the tournament two strokes behind Western Kentucky (+11), North Texas (+11) and South Alabama (+11).

Western Kentucky won the team title on the second hole of the three team playoff.

The Privateers had the second best round of the day as they gained seven strokes on the Hilltoppers.

Anthony Cantu (+1) shot a final round 75 and was the top Privateer finisher as he tied for seventh place. Cantu was six strokes behind Western Kentucky's Brent Long (-5), who won the individual title.

UNO's Santiago Escobar (+3) shot a 73 and tied for 14th place, while Kenji Murayama (+4) was a stroke back in 16th place after tallying a 74.

Adam Collins (+8) had his second consecutive under par round with a 70 to take 24th, while Adam Cornelson (+17) concluded the tournament with a 76 to finish in a 43rd place tie.

Murayama was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Team, while Privateer Head Coach Chris McCarter was tabbed Coach of the Year.
