Box Score TROY, Ala. - Troy closed out a weekend four-game sweep of the University of New Orleans with a 10-0 victory on Sunday in the series finale.
Pitching played a large part in Troy improving to 13-3 as starting pitcher Jimmy Hodgskin (1-1) allowed just two hits over seven innings, while retiring the final 11 UNO (1-15) batters he faced. The win was the first for the freshman.
All told, 17 consecutive Privateer batters in a row were retired as Trojan relievers A.J. Howard and Thomas Austin continued the streak in their one inning apiece out of the bullpen.
Offensively, the Troy struck for five runs over the first two innings and six total over the five frames worked by UNO starter
Zach Kelt (1-3). Kelt finished with six runs allowed - five earned - on eight hits, while striking out three.
The Trojans added three runs in the sixth and a final tally in the eighth to reach 10 for the game. Three players had a trio of hits for Troy including Adam Bryant, Kyle Brown and Todd McRae, each doing so in five plate appearances.
UNO's lone hits of the contest were registered by
Blake LeBlanc and
Cameron Wheeless. The duo each hit 1-for-3 with LeBlanc adding a game-opening walk to his count, one of four in the game for the Privateers.
UNO will now have five days between games, before resuming their 2011 season on Friday night against crosstown rival Tulane at 6:30 p.m. The first contest of a three-game series, the Privateers won 2 of 3 against the Green Wave last season to claim the First NBC Bank Cup.
