Valdosta, Ga. - The University of New Orleans tennis teams ended their run in the ITA South Regional on Friday.
A day after posting some quality results, particularly on the women's side, the UNO players fell flat as they went deeper in the tournament against some of the region's best.
In 'Round of 32' matches, UNO went a collective 1-5 on Friday with Marta Sans producing the lone victory. The freshman defeated Natalia Trotter of Palm Beach Atlantic 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the 'Round of 16' where she fell to Iona Ivan of Lynn by a 6-1, 6-1 result.
Other 'Round of 32' results came in the form of straight set losses by
Hossam Meligy,
Ricardo Campos, Andrea Martin, Kristina Martic and Manuela Gomez. Meligy fell 6-1, 6-2 to nationally-ranked Jeff Morris of Rollins while Campos retired due to injury before starting play against Florida Southern's Benoit Paradis.
For the women, Martin fell 6-0, 6-2 to Rollins' Lisa Loft with Martic dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Barry's Mona Mansour. Gomez rounded out the defeats with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat by Cristina Valladares of Barry.
In consolation play,
Dominik Kardell posted the lone win of the day for UNO. Kardell dispatched Saint Leo's Tim Balz-Herrmann before falling in the third round of the bracket by a 9-7 score to Alabama-Huntsville's Daniel Canelias.
UNO will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 20 when both the men and women take part in the West Florida Fall Fling.
