ALEXANDRIA, La. – The University of New Orleans baseball team will play its first three-game weekend series of the season as it visits LSU-Alexandria.
The two teams will play a single game at 6 p.m. on Friday before playing a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
UNO (3-2) has won two straight, including the team's road opener at Mobile on Tuesday.
The Privateers' weekend schedule at LSUA (3-5) will prepare the program for the Gulf South Conference (GSC) portion of the slate, which will begin in a week at defending NCAA Division II champion West Florida. Weekend series in GSC play feature a doubleheader day followed by a single game.
Beau Boudreaux enters the weekend as the top hitter on the squad with a .556 batting average, two home runs and eight RBIs. Boudreaux has posted a home run in his last two games and had five RBIs against UM in the team's last contest.
Other top hitters include
Blake LeBlanc (.450, three RBIs),
Clint Coleman (.353, seven runs, four RBIs) and
Dan Perkins (.316). The four players have made up the top portion of head coach Bruce Peddie's lineup with UNO posting a 2-0 mark since Peddie shifted Boudreaux into the No. 2 spot behind LeBlanc.
On the mound, the Privateers' starting pitchers have allowed just one earned run over the last nine innings.
Christian Cale (2-0, 1.80 ERA) allowed a single earned run during five innings against Stillman College last Tuesday before
Stone Speer (0-1, 3.38) threw four shutout innings against UM earlier this week.
The duo alongside
Jake Fabre (1-1, 9.00 ERA) have accounted for all five starts on the season. Fabre's last appearance was out of the bullpen, with the right-handed pitcher posting three scoreless frames and five strikeouts.
An NAIA Independent, LSUA is on a two-game skid after dropping a doubleheader to Talladega on Friday, Feb. 17. The Generals split a doubleheader on Feb. 15 against a William Carey squad that owns a victory over UNO.
Cullen Vujnovich is the top hitter for LSUA with a .409 batting average while also claiming two of the team's six steals. Tid Hilger is batting .367 with team-highs in RBIs (10) and doubles (four).
Likely starters for the Generals include Jake Bell (1-1, 3.09 ERA), Devin Evans (1-1, 5.63) and Josh Palmer (0-1, 14.14). Bell and Palmer are right-handed pitchers while Evans is a southpaw.
The series against LSUA will complete a four-game road trip for a UNO team that will return home on Tuesday to face Spring Hill. First pitch at Maestri Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
