NEW ORLEANS – A pair of midweek games serve as the final preparation for the University of New Orleans baseball team as the head into Gulf South Conference play next weekend.

UNO (6-2) will host Spring Hill on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field before paying a visit to Stillman College on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Tuesday's home game will be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM with live stat updates on UNOPrivateers.com.

The Privateers enter the week on a five-game winning streak, their longest since the 2008 season.

Playing a part in the success as of late has been UNO's ability to steal bases and place its players in scoring position. Through eight games, the team has accumulated 28 stolen bases in 31 attempts, nearly double the total of 15 stolen bases in 2011 and not far off from the 39 from 2010.

Clint Coleman and Dan Perkins lead the Privateers with seven and six steals, respectively. This past weekend, the duo tallied three steals apiece in a single game – the first time the feat had been accomplished by a UNO player since current Kansas City Royals' second baseman Johnny Giavotella on May 6, 2008 against Tulane.

Entering the week, Beau Boudreaux is the top hitter on the squad with a .438 batting average to accompany nine runs and nine RBIs.  Boudreaux also has swiped four bases in six appearances, equaling his team-best in the category from a year ago.

With conference play getting underway on Saturday, head coach Bruce Peddie will likely look outside his three-man rotation for starting pitchers this week.  No pitcher outside the group of Christian Cale (3-0, 1.06 ERA), Stone Speer (1-1, 3.27 ERA) and Jake Fabre (2-1, 4.50 ERA) has made a start as of yet.

Members of the current roster to have started for UNO during their career include Garrett Manning and Cory Myers. Manning has made three appearances out of the bullpen this season with Myers a fifth year redshirt.

SHC is 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Badgers lost 2 of 3 over the weekend to their league rival Emmanuel College on the road and are currently in the midst of a nine-game swing away from home.

In his 27th season at the helm of SHC, head coach Frank Sims has won 702 games, claiming his 700th at Tougaloo on Feb. 21. Andy Robbins is the top hitter with a .478 batting average with four runs and five RBIs. Other top hitters include Brian Sims (.436, 11 runs, three RBIs) and Kendell Carvin (.333 batting average, six runs and eight RBIs).

Possible midweek starters for SHC are Daniel Pitfield (2-0, 3.27 ERA) and Cyrus Beermann (1-0, 4.66 ERA).

Stillman (2-10) dropped a three-game series against Alabama-Huntsville this past weekend. The Tigers are 1-5 since dropping a 12-3 contest at Maestri Field on Feb. 14 against the Privateers.

An NCAA participant last year, Stillman is 0-3 at home where they have had five games washed away due to inclement weather this year.  UNO saw five of the Tigers' pitchers in the previous meeting including Tyler Colvert, who took the loss after giving up seven runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Following the midweek contests, the Privateers will head to defending NCAA Division II champion West Florida over the weekend to open GSC play. The teams will play a pair of games at 1 p.m. on Saturday before a single game on Sunday.
