Privateers Remain Perfect at Home with 5-0 Record

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Jackson State on Sunday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

The men's match was the only contested dual as a previously scheduled women's match between the two institutions did not occur as JSU head coach Niji Olagdegi arrived on Sunday without his women's team.

UNO improved to 7-2 overall and maintained a perfect 5-0 mark at home.

JSU contested the dual with just five players, automatically dropping the No. 3 doubles' and No. 6 singles' matches by walkover.

In the doubles' matches, Ricardo Campos and Hossam Meligy defeated Navaneetha Baskran and Jose Luque 8-2 at the No. 1 position with David Malmgren and Vinay Kamineni winning 8-3 at the No. 2 court over Marko Milosavlesvic and Carlos Martinez.

The results in doubles' play carried over to singles' action as the Privateers did not drop a single set.

Campos and Kamineni won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively with Meligy, Malmgren and Yoshikazu Ysa also picking up victories on the day. Meligy won at the No. 3 court with Malmgren and Ysa playing at the No. 4 and No. 5 courts, respectively.

Malmgren's win was his sixth straight singles' win of the dual season with victories by Meligy and Ysa representing their fifth in a row.

The UNO men's tennis team will continue their homestand on Monday at 12 p.m. against UT-Pan American with the Privateer women resuming their slate on Mar. 16 at home against Mississippi State in a match scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
