HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of New Orleans found itself behind 6-2 after two innings and was only able to plate one additional run in their next seven trips to the plate to fall 6-3  to Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park.

Cameron Wheeless went 2-for-4 to lead UNO (9-9), including a triple in the first inning.

The Wheeless triple was one of the three extra-base hits in the opening frame for the Privateers, who also received doubles from Dan Perkins and Brandon Simon to take an early 2-0 lead.

Perkins and Simon had two hits apiece in the contest to join Wheeless in putting together a 6-of-11 effort for the No. 2 through No. 4 spots in the lineup for UNO.

UAH (16-13) tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Chargers moved ahead for good with a four-run second, taking advantage of three hits and a pair of UNO errors to claim a 6-2 lead.

All of the scoring for UAH came against Stone Speer (1-3).

After giving up six runs – five earned – in his first two innings of work, Speer held the Chargers scoreless for the next three innings for a total of five innings on the mound. Kyle Zara followed with three scoreless innings of relief for the Privateers.

UNO added one more run in the fourth on a Clint Coleman home run to cut the deficit to 6-3.

The final opportunity to get back in the contest came in the ninth inning as Jonathan Coco and Tyler Hughes reached base with just one out. With the two Privateers onboard, UAH brought in relief pitcher Cody Barrett, who retired the only two batters he faced for his third save of the year.

David Kendrick (4-2) earned the win for the Chargers while allowing three runs on seven hits.

UNO will take Monday off before resuming their six-game road swing with a pair of seven-inning games against LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday. The Pilots are currently ranked No. 6 in NAIA.
