NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by perennial NAIA national title contender Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
The No. 6 ranked AUM men (10-6) defeated UNO (7-4) by a 6-1 score with the top-ranked AUM women improved to 15-1 with a 5-2 win over their Privateer (8-3) opponents.
In the men's dual,
Vinay Kamineni factored into the only UNO victories registered against AUM. Kamineni teamed with
David Malmgren for an 8-3 doubles' victory at the No.2 position before besting Josh Reason 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles' court.
On the No. 2 court,
Hossam Meligy nearly joined Kamineni in the win column, falling 7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), 10-8 to Bence Toth in a super tiebreaker
The women's dual featured a pair of walkovers at the No. 3 doubles' court and No. 6 singles' position in light of a five-player lineup for the visiting Warhawks.
Juliet Labarthe came through for the lone Privateer victory in a contested match, rallying from a set down to defeat Morgane Zowczak 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.
The UNO women's team will resume its slate on Monday at the UTC at 2 p.m. against NCAA Division II No. 1 squad BYU-Hawaii. The Privateer men will join their women's counterparts on Mar. 31 at Saint Leo's as part of a Spring Break road trip that will take the teams through Florida and Georgia into the month of April.
