MEMPHIS – The University of New Orleans baseball team rallied from behind in a win on Monday at Spring Hill and will look to build off that success as they head to Christian Brothers for a three-game series this weekend.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. before turning around for a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats for all three contests will be available at GoBucsGo.com.
UNO is 11-12 on the season and enters the weekend with a 7-4 mark on the road.
Head coach Bruce Peddie found offensive production at the bottom of his lineup in Monday's victory as the No. 6 through No. 9 hitters contributed six of the team's eight hits.
Stefan Farrell and
Jonathan Coco had two hits apiece for the group with Farrell currently having the 'hot bat' on the Privateer roster. The senior has four multi-hit games in his last five appearances, hitting 9 of 18 in the process, which bolstered Farrell's batting average to .250 on the season.
Cameron Wheeless resides as UNO's top hitter on the season with a .346 batting average, which escalates to .439 when only considering contests against Gulf South Conference teams on the slate.
The most recent pitching rotation for the Privateers featured
Stone Speer (2-3, 4.81 ERA),
Cory Myers (1-1, 10.97) and
Jake Fabre (3-4, 4.82).
Christian Cale (3-0, 3.82) was a regular member of the group until skipping a start last weekend.
Speer had the best performance of the three UNO starters a week ago, holding West Georgia to a single run on three hits over eight innings of work. The right-handed pitcher that prepped at Curtis before playing junior college baseball at Delgado, established a team season-high with eight strikeouts in the process.
CBU (7-21) has dropped 10 of 11 with their lone victory during that skid coming in the form of a 6-1 win over West Florida last Saturday. Pitcher Alex Sikes (3-2, 3.50 ERA) pitched a three-hitter in the upset of UWF and factors into a weekend rotation that has typically included Jake Garbuzinski (1-4, 8.51) and Braden Keathley (1-4, 3.86).
The Bucs are led at the plate by Josh Hopkins, the only player with more than 20 appearances on the roster hitting above .300. Hopkins is hitting .338 with team-highs in runs (15) and hits (27).
UNO leads the all-time series against CBU 5-2.
The Privateers will resume their 2012 campaign at Maestri Field on Tuesday, Apr. 3 against Mobile. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
